Some of you may remember this restaurant by a different name and ownership.It was once called "Northern Light" and is at the Northern Light Marina in Niceville.
Sometimes contrast is what lets us define something. No shadows without light. A fireplace is most cozy when coming in from the cold.
Big Fish is the cozy fire. Without spending too much time on the previous operations, let me just say I went to it more than once and every time there was something just not right. The last time for me was when I ordered a meal that was suppose to include chorizo and I was clearly served kielbasa (which is much cheaper).
It's not all too often you can find a local place where the food, the service, and the atmosphere intersect in one place. As you know, if you are my guests for dinner, you should be prepared to share. My frequent date is a wonderful cook on her own, can pick out subtle spices in foods and doesn't frown when I sneak a little bit of what she orders (which is often what I really wanted anyhow- but just didn't know it).
On our last visit here my meal was great, hers was even better. I had a large, juicy burger with avocado, bacon, and Gouda cheese. Cooked exactly the right way. I like going to a place where they understand "medium" and actually season the burger, rather than having you do it at your table.
Also, Shrimp&Grits. Classic dish for our area. Fresh Shrimp (you can tell) were delicious. What can be better than this? How about served by a pleasant staff who bring you cold beer and don't get upset when you are there a little too long because your guest was late from work. Icing on the cake? Can you take in all the colors of the sunset across Boggy Bayou? I swear it makes the food taste even better.
Be prepared to ask for a to-go box, the portions are large. In fact, we could have split the burger. The beer is ice cold and they have a good selection of different varietals. If you want the best experience, time your visit right. Look up the time for sunset during a warm period.
For all the right reasons Big Fish is a big catch, not throwing this one back!

The food is great, the staff is friendly and the view of the Bayou is incredible....one of my favorite places.
