This is a little place on Hwy 98, north side, kind of across from Harbor Docks.
I had seen the sign a few times while driving by. Each time I though to myself, awesome- we have a little Jewish Deli. But the name fooled me. Nosh has become less Yiddish and more ubiquitous as simply "food".
The contradictions only grew from this starting point.
Let me say first, the food was pretty tasty, but it was more Latin inspired (no lox to be found for days). The quality of food stands is stark contrast to the environment. This is a small place with only a few tables that don't really match anything else. The menu is on a blackboard in the dining room and changes frequently.
Single bathroom is found by walking through an area that has storage on either side, half hidden by curtains. WC is clean, but old and layer upon layer of paint.
My guest and I spoke with one of the owners. She is very friendly and cares a great deal about the quality of food, and it shows. But this is one of those places that shows the biggest issues with restaurants of this size- under-capitalization. This is also why most small places like this don't make it, even if the food is fab.
We had a bacon cheddar quesadilla with pico de gayo (tomato cilantro fresh lemon and red onion- really good and you can tell it's fresh lemon), salsa verde, and sour cream. An omelette with spinach, mushroom, Swiss cheese and ham. The omelette was fluffy and light, but points off for canned mushrooms. On the side, toasted roll with home made apple butter.
Bottom line, this is a place with a very good product. The building they are in is like framing a Picasso with duct tape and cardboard. Even with the very limited kitchen equipment and space- the back of the house does remarkably well. The front of the house is absent. They need a partner who can invest in a space worthy of the food, a place to showcase their product.
