Blue Parrot- St. George Island
It would be hard to improve on the scenery where Blue Parrot is located on St. George Island. If you vacation here, or simply visit for a weekend you have to eat. Blue Parrot is one alternative,
When you are lucky enough to live along the coast, spotting the places that thrive because of tourism is pretty easy. You will probably find yourself eating at these places every so often. Often after visiting these kinds of places, I am reminded they remain in business because there are lots of people who come and eat there because of the location and not necessarily because of the food.
Don't get me wrong, the food is not bad here. It's just important to manage expectations, and rating the food any higher than a 5 would be misleading. The service was pretty good, friendly- better in fact than most touristy eateries. The location is the real sell here.
Our meal included Fried Shrimp, Sea Scallops along with slaw, a pina collada and a beer. Nothing was bad, nothing was outstanding. Just kind of so-so. The food (maybe not the slaw) without doubt came out of a frozen truck, but that's ok- just know that going in.
I can see coming here during a vacation with a group of others. Spending the day on the beach and then retreating to Blue Parrot for food and drinks, just don't expect to have your socks knocked off.
I few things we didn't really care for though- a lot of the seating is on plastic, lawn type chairs. We sat at a higher table with stools that really didn't fit. It was hard to get close and comfortable enough to eat from your plate. Another thing, I am a dog person, My border collie Finnegan is as smart and lovable as they come. Having said that, I can see bringing a well behaved dog into an outdoor type restaurant but I will never warm up to having cats wander around and jump up on things. It's a big no-go for me.
So overall, how would I rate Blue Parrot? Meh.... I would eat here again probably, minus the cats. But I would approach it the same way I would going to a FF place. That is, I'm hungry, it's here and convenient, and I probably won't get sick. A better alternative for me would be taking the short drive back to Apalachicola. Lot's of good places there.
Food 5. Service 7. Cleanliness 4 (cats). Overall environment 7 (beach view).
